AhlulBayt News Agency: Israel has delivered an indirect warning to Lebanon, stating that it would launch severe strikes—including attacks on civilian infrastructure such as Beirut’s airport—if Hezbollah intervenes in any potential conflict between the United States and Iran.
Two senior Lebanese officials told Reuters on Tuesday that the message was passed through diplomatic channels amid rising regional tensions.
According to the officials, Israel made clear that Lebanese state facilities would be treated as legitimate targets should Hezbollah take military action in support of Tehran.
The warning comes as Washington and Tehran prepare for a third round of nuclear negotiations on February 26 in Geneva, announced by Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al‑Busaidi.
In January, Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem said in a televised speech that the movement would not remain neutral if a confrontation erupted between the United States and Iran.
“We are determined to defend ourselves, and we will decide in due time whether to intervene or not,” he stated.
The heightened rhetoric has prompted precautionary steps from Washington. On February 23, a senior U.S. State Department official announced the withdrawal of non‑essential staff and eligible family members from the U.S. Embassy in Beirut due to security concerns.
U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened military action against Iran since early January, following his public support for foreign‑linked unrest inside the country.
Trump has also ordered a significant military buildup in regional waters and warned of strikes if Iran does not accept a deal on U.S. terms.
Iranian officials have reaffirmed their readiness for a fair nuclear agreement but warned that even a limited attack would trigger a decisive response.
